All my hope on God is founded

Author: Robert Bridges, 1844-1930; Joachim Neander Hymnal: Together in Song #560b (1999) Meter: 8.7.8.7.3.3.7 Topics: Confession of Faith Lyrics: 1 All my hope on God is founded; all my trust he will renew, through all change and chance he guides me, only good and only true. God unknown, he alone calls my heart to be his own. 2 Human pride and earthly glory, sword and crown betray our trust; all we build with care and labour, tower and temple, fall to dust. But God's power, hour by hour, is my temple and my tower. 3 God's great goodness lasts for ever, deep his wisdom, passing thought: splendour, light and life attend him, beauty springing out of naught. Evermore from his store new-born worlds rise and adore. 4 Daily the almighty giver will his bounteous gifts bestow; in his will our souls find pleasure, leading us where'er we go. Love will stand at his hand, joy shall wait for his command. 5 Still from earth to God eternal sacrifice of praise be done, high above all praises praising for the gift of Christ his Son. Hear Christ call one and all: those who follow shall not fall. Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:17-19 Tune Title: MEINE HOFFNUNG

The Apostles' Creed

Author: Anon. Hymnal: Trinity Psalter Hymnal #560 (2018) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Topics: Faith Confession of First Line: I believe in God the Father Lyrics: 1 I believe in God the Father, Maker of the heav'n and earth, and in Jesus Christ, our Savior, God's own Son, of matchless worth; by the Holy Ghost conceived, virgin Mary bore God's Son, he in whom I have believed: God Almighty, Three in One. 2 Suffered under Pontius Pilate, crucified, enduring hell, laid within the grave so silent, as the prophets did foretell. But the stone-sealed tomb was emptied on the third day; he arose: into heaven made his entry, Mighty Conqueror of his foes. 3 At God's right hand he is seated, 'til his coming, as he said; final judgment will be meted to the living and the dead. I confess the Holy Spirit has been sent thro' Christ the Son to apply salvation's merit; God the Spirit, Three in One. 4 I believe the church of Jesus holy, catholic remains; we are one thro' all the ages, the communion of the saints. I believe sins are forgiven, that our bodies will be raised, life with God is never ended. Amen, let his name be praised! Scripture: Romans 10:10 Languages: English Tune Title: RIPLEY

The voice of my Beloved sounds

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #561 (1835) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Blessings of a person; Comfort holiness, and pardon; Grace without merit; Obedience sincere; Sincerity; Confession of sin, repentance, and pardon; Conscience its guilt relieved; Faith in the blood of Christ; Guilt of conscience relieved; Justification free; Pardon and confession; Repentance confession, and pardon Lyrics: The voice of my Beloved sounds Over the rocks and rising grounds; O'er hills of guilt and seas of grief He leaps, he flies to my relief. Now through the veil of flesh I see With eyes of love he looks at me; Now in the gospel's clearest glass He shows the beauties of his face. Gently he draws my heart along, Both with his beauties and his tongue; "Rise," saith my Lord, "make haste away, No mortal joys are worth thy stay. "The Jewish wintry state is gone, The mists are fled, the spring comes on; The sacred turtle-dove we hear Proclaim the new, the joyful year. "Th' immortal vine of heav'nly root Blossoms, and buds, and gives her fruit:" Lo! we are come to taste the wine; Our souls rejoice, and bless the vine. And when we hear our Jesus say, "Rise up, my love, make haste away!" Our hearts would fain outfly the wind, And leave all earthly loves behind. Scripture: Song of Solomon 2:8-13 Languages: English

"My dove, who hidest in the rock, Thine heart almost with sorrow broke, Lift up thy face, forget thy fear, And let thy voice delight mine ear. "Thy voice to me sounds ever sweet; My graces in thy count'nance meet; Though the vain world thy face despise, 'Tis bright and comely in mine eyes." Dear Lord, our thankful heart receives The hope thine invitation gives; To thee our joyful lips shall raise The voice of prayer and of praise.] [I am my Love's, and he is mine; Our hearts, our hopes, our passions join; Nor let a motion, nor a word, Nor thought, arise to grieve my Lord. My soul to pastures fair he leads, Amongst the lilies where he feeds Amongst the saints, whose robes are white, Washed in his blood, is his delight. Till the day break, and shadows flee, Till the sweet dawning light I see, Thine eyes to me-ward often turn, Nor let my soul in darkness mourn. Be like a hart on mountains green, Leap o'er the hills of fear and sin; Nor guilt nor unbelief divide My Love, my Savior, from my side.] Scripture: Song of Solomon 2:14-17 Languages: English

Often I seek my Lord by night

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #563 (1835) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Blessings of a person; Comfort holiness, and pardon; Grace without merit; Obedience sincere; Sincerity; Confession of sin, repentance, and pardon; Conscience its guilt relieved; Faith in the blood of Christ; Guilt of conscience relieved; Justification free; Pardon and confession; Repentance confession, and pardon Lyrics: Often I seek my Lord by night, Jesus, my Love, my soul's delight; With warm desire and restless thought I seek him oft, but find him not. Then I arise and search the street, Till I my Lord, my Savior meet: I ask the watchmen of the night, "Where did you see my soul's delight?" Sometimes I find him in my way, Directed by a heav'nly ray; I leap for joy to see his face, And hold him fast in mine embrace. [I bring him to my mother's home, Nor does my Lord refuse to come To Zion's sacred chambers, where My soul first drew the vital air. He gives me there his bleeding heart, Pierced for my sake with deadly smart; I give my soul to him, and there Our loves their mutual tokens share.] I charge you, all ye earthly toys, Approach not to disturb my joys; Nor sin nor hell come near my heart, Nor cause my Savior to depart. Jesus, thou everlasting King, Accept the tribute which we bring; Accept the well-deserved renown, And wear our praises as thy crown. Let every act of worship be Like our espousals, Lord, to thee; Like the dear hour when from above We first received thy pledge of love. The gladness of that happy day, Our hearts would wish it long to stay; Nor let our faith forsake its hold, Nor comfort sink, nor love grow cold. Each following minute, as it flies, Increase thy praise, improve our joys, Till we are raised to sing thy name At the great supper of the Lamb. O that the months would roll away, And bring that coronation day! The King of Grace shall fill the throne, With all his Father's glories on. Scripture: Song of Solomon 3:11 Languages: English

Author of faith, eternal word

Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-88 Hymnal: Together in Song #565 (1999) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Confession of Faith Lyrics: 1 Author of faith, eternal word, whose Spirit breathes the active flame - faith, like its Finisher and Lord, today as yesterday the same: 2 to you our humble hearts aspire, and ask the gift unspeakable; increase in us the kindled fire, in us the work of faith fulfil. 3 By faith we know you strong to save; your saving presence let us know; Whate'er we hope, by faith we have, future and past are present now. 4 To us who in your name believe eternal life with you is given; into ourselves we all receive, pardon, and happiness, and heaven. 5 The things unknown to feeble sense, unseen by reason's glimmering ray, with strong, commanding evidence, their heavenly origin display. 6 Faith lends its realizing light, the clouds disperse, the shadows fly, the Invisible appears in sight, and God is seen by mortal eye.
