1930 - 1986 Person Name: Stanley Wiersma Versifier of "LORD, to You My Soul Is Lifted" in Psalter Hymnal (Gray) Pseudonym: Sietze Buning ********** Stanley Marvin Wiersma (b. Orange City, IA, 1930; d. Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 1986) was a poet and professor of English at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, from 1959 until his sudden death in 1986. He attended Calvin as an undergraduate and received a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1959. His love for the Genevan psalms is reflected in the two books of poetry for which he is most widely known: Purpaleanie and Other Permutations (1978) and Style and Class (1982), both written under the pseudonym Sietze Buning. He also wrote More Than the Ear Discovers: God in the Plays of Christopher Fry and translated many Dutch poems and hymn texts into English, including the children's hymns published in All Will Be New (1982). M. Fr. Wiese

b. 1842 Translator of "O bliv hos mig naar livets kveld er n'r" Born in Falster, Denmark in 1842, emigrated to American in 1863. Lived first in Racine, Wis. and then moving to Madison. He was a pastor for a Norwegian Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Iowa for awhile before organizing the first Danish Lutheran Church in America in the city of Indianapolis in 1868.

Burkhard Wiesenmeyer

Author of "Das alte Jahr ist nun dahin" Wiesenmeyer, Burchard, was a native of Helmstadt, and died at Petershagen (probably Petershagen near Alt-Landsberg), apparently before 1691. He was from 1637 to 1644, and probably somewhat longer, one of the masters in the Greyfriars Gymnasium at Berlin. (Koch, iii. 341; M. Michael Schirmer. By Dr. J. F. Bachmann, Berlin, 1859, p. 220, &c.) He assisted in preparing the two hymn-books which his colleague at Berlin, Johann Crüger (p. 271, Nos. 1, 4), issued in 1640 and 1653. To these he contributed a few recasts of earlier hymns. The only one translation into English is noted at p. 1091, i. [Rev.
