Priest, High Priest

Author: Cennick Meter: Irregular Appears in 29 hymnals First Line: A good High Priest is come Lyrics: 1 A good High Priest is come, Supplying Aaron's place, And taking up his room, Dispensing life and grace: The law by Aaron's priesthood came, But grace and truth by Jesus' name. 2 My Lord a priest is made, As sware the mighty God, To Israel and his seed; Ordain'd to offer blood, For sinners who his mercy seek, A priest, as was Melchizedek. 3 He once temptations knew, Of ev'ry sort and kind, That he might succour shew, To ev'ry tempted mind: In ev'ry point, the Lamb was tried Like us, and then for us, he died. 4 He dies, but lives again, And by the altar stands; There shews how he was slain, Op'ning His pierced hands. Our Priest abides, and pleads the cause Of us, who have transgress'd his laws. 5 I other Priests disclaim, And laws and off'rings too, None but the bleeding Lamb The mighty work can do; He shall have all the praise, for he Hath lov'd, and liv'd, and di'd for me. Topics: Attributes, Characters, Names, and Offices of Christ, from the New Testament Scripture: Hebrews 9:11-12

God Remembers Pain

Author: Brian Wren Meter: Irregular Appears in 4 hymnals Lyrics: 1 God remembers pain: nail by nail, thorn by thorn, hunger, thirst and muscles torn. Time may dull our griefs, and heal our lesser wounds, but in eternal love, yesterday is now, and pain is in the heart of God. 2 God remembers joy: touch of love, taste of food, all our senses know is good. Love and life flow by and precious days are gone, but in eternal love every day is now, and joy is in the heart of God. 3 God remembers us: all we were, all we are, lives within our Lover's care. Time may dull our minds and death will take us all, but in eternal love every life is now: our life is hid with Christ in God. Brian Wren (born 1936) © 1993 Stainer & Bell Ltd 5.6 7.5.6.6.5.8. Love divine, all love excelling

Meter: Irregular Appears in 1,854 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Love divine, all love excelling, Joy of heaven to earth come down! Fix in us thy humble dwelling, All thy faithful mercies crown; Jesus! thou art all compassion, Pure unbounded love thou art; Visit us with thy salvation, Enter every trembling heart! 2 Breathe, O breathe thy lovely spirit Into every troubled breast! Let us all in thee inherit, Let us find the promis'd rest: Take away the love of sinning, Alpha and Omega be, End of faith, as its beginning, Set our hearts at liberty. 3 Come! almighty to deliver, Let us all thy life receive! Suddenly return, and never, Nevermore thy temples leave! Thee we would be always blessing, Serve thee as thy hosts above; Pray, and praise thee without ceasing, Glory in thy precious love. 4 Finish then thy new creation, Pure, unspotted may we be; Let us see thy great salvation Perfectly restor'd by thee! Change from glory into glory, Till in heaven we take our place, Till we cast our crowns before thee, Lost in wonder, love, and praise! Topics: Breathing after holiness; Christian experience Sanctification and christian graces

Hark! the song of Jubilee

Meter: Irregular Appears in 446 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Hark! the song of Jubilee, Loud as mighty thunders roar, Or the fullness of the sea, When it breaks upon the shore:-- Hallelujah! for the Lord, God omnipotent, shall reign; Hallelujah! let the word Echo round the earth and main. 2 Hallelujah! hark! the sound, From the depths unto the skies, Wakes above, beneath, around All creation's harmonies;-- See Jehovah's banner furl'd, Sheath'd his sword: he speaks--'tis done; And the kingdoms of this world Are the kingdoms of his Son. 3 He shall reign from pole to pole With illimitable sway; He shall reign, when like a scroll Yonder heav'ns have pass'd away:-- Then the end;--beneath his rod Man's last enemy shall fall; Hallelujah! Christ in God, God in Christ is all in all. Topics: Kingdom and Church of Christ Missionary Hymn Scripture: Revelation 14:2
