Carol Browning

b. 1956 Person Name: Carol E. Browning, b. 1956 Meter: 8.8.8.8 Author (refrain) of "Creator of the Stars of Night" in Gather Comprehensive, Second Edition Carol Browning is a long-time pastoral musician and liturgist, mainly in Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Episcopal, and Presbyterian settings, although she is a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). She is a liturgical composer, published by GIA Publications, World Library Publications (now a division of GIA), and MorningStar Music, and an independently published inspirational songwriter. She enjoys working with other composers and text writers. As a member of the Collegeville Composers Group, Carol and fellow composers (Anna Betancourt; Catherine Christmas; Fr. Cyprian Consiglio, OSB Cam.; Dr. Paul Ford; and Paul Inwood) created a new music program, entitled Psallite and published by Liturgical Press, written in a truly collaborative manner. The heart of her music comes from listening to the Spirit and crafting singable, accessible melodies and beautiful choral arrangements for worship and prayer. Carol leads music for contemplative services on a monthly basis, in the traditions of the Taizé and Iona communities. Carol Browning

Nov. 18, 1836, and educated at King's College, London, and Trin. Hall., Camb. (B.A. in honours, 1860). Called to the Bar in 1862, he has held several important appointments, and has been a Metropolitan Police Magistrate since 1888. He has published several vols. on legal subjects, and Poems, 1897, Pilate's Wife's Dream, 1860, Poems, 1889, Interludes (three series), 1892, 1894, 1899, and Hymns & Psalms, 1903. His hymns in common use include:— 1. Glory to God, all the heavens are telling. [Holy Trinity.] Appeared in his Poems, 1897, and Hymns and Psalms, 1903. In Hymns Ancient & Modern, 1904, with the omission of st. v., vi. 2. Roll back the stone, for the Angel of God has descended. Christopher Batty

1715 - 1797 Meter: 8.8.8.8 Author of "Captain of Thine Enlisted Host" in The Cyber Hymnal Batty, Christopher, born at Newby Cote, near Settle, Yorkshire, 1715, died April 19, 1797. He was a member of the "Inghamites," a religious denomination located principally in the northern parts of the counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire. He assisted James Allen (q. v.) in the production of the Kendal Hymn Book, 1757, to which he contributed 31 hymns. Very few of these are in common use at the present time. His "Captain of Thine enlisted host" (Missions ), from the Kendal Hymn Book. 1757, is found in Kemble's Collection, 1853, No. 475, and in Spurgeon's 0ur Own Hymn Book, No. 968. Through the influence and patronage of Pope Pius IV. he became Professor of the Belles Lettres in the Collegio Romano, and subsequently rose to be the head of the college, and a cardinal.
