To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 19 First Line: Declare abroad the heavens do Lyrics: 1 Declare abroad the heavens do The majesty of God; And forth the firmament doth show His handy work abroad. 2 Day speaks to day, night hath likewise Knowledge to night declar'd. 3 There neither speech nor language is Where their voice is not heard. 4 The coasts of all the earth throughout Their line is gone unto; The ends of all the world about, Their words do reach unto. 5 A tabernacle he in those hath pitched for the sun; Who bridegroom like from's chamber goes Glad giants race to run. 6 The utmost end of heavens fro His course and compassing, To th' ends thereof; from's heat also There hidden is no thing. [2] 7 Jehovah's law is perfect pure, And doth the soul convert: Jehovah's testimony sure Makes wise the simple heart. 8 The statues of the Lord are right And do rejoice the heart; The Lord's command is pure, and light Doth to the eyes impart. 9 Clean is Jehovah's awful fear, And doth abide for aye: The truth Jehovah's judgements are And wholly right are they. 10 Than gold, than much refined gold More to be prized far; Than honey sweeter manifold, And honey comb they are. 11 Thy servant he moreover is Admonished from hence, In keeping of the same likewise Great is the recompence. 12 Who can his errors throughly know; From secret faults cleanse me, And from presumptuous sins also, Keep thou thy servant free. 13 O let them never over me Usurp dominion: Then clear and upright shall I be From great transgression. 14 Words of my mouth, thoughts of my heart, Let acceptable be. Lord in thy sight, my rock who art And my redeemer free.

The Heav'ns declare thy Glory, LORD

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 19 Lyrics: 1 The Heav'ns declare thy Glory, LORD, Which that, and that alone can fill; The Firmament and Stars express their great Creator's wond'rous Skill: Each Dawn fresh Beams of Knowledge brings, From ev'ry Night Instruction springs. 2 Their pow'rful Language to no Space, Or Realm, or Region is confin'd; 'Tis Nature's universal Voice, And understood by all Mankind: The Sun their Doctrines doth display, Where-e'er he darts his genial Ray. 3 No Bridegroom for his Nuptials dress'd, Can shew a more enliven'd Face; No Giant does like him rejoice, To run with Strength his glorious Race; In one unwearied Round he goes, And Light and Heat on all bestows. Part II 4 GOD's perfect Law converts the Soul, Reclaims the Heart from false Desires; With sacred Wisdom his pure Word The Weak and Ignorant inspires; The Statutes bring sincere Delight; His Word assists the feeblest Sight. 5 The Fear of GOD most perfect is, And shall for evermore endure; The Judgments of the LORD are true, Most just and altogether pure; More precious than fine Gold they are, And sweeter than the Honey far. 6 My trusty Counsellors they are, To me they friendly Warnings give: Divine Rewards attend on those, Who by thy Precepts live. But who can all his Errors see? From secret Faults, LORD, cleanse thou me! 7 Let no presumptuous Sin, O LORD! Obtain Dominion over me; That, by thy Grace preserv'd, I may Far from the great Transgression flee; So shall my Pray'r by thee be bless'd, And I in GOD my Saviour rest. Thro' all the Heav'ns, thy Glory, Lord

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 19 Lyrics: 1. Thro' all the Heav'ns, thy Glory, Lord, Doth admirably shine; The starry Firmament declares Thy Pow'r, and Skill, Divine. 2. Each Day, to next succeeding Day, Discourses of thy Fame; And Night, to Night, doth clearly show The Knowledge of thy Name. 3. Were there no Speech, nor Language known Thro' the terraqueous Frame; The Voice of these would still be heard. And wide thy Praise proclaim. 4. Thro' all the Earth their Line is gone, Thro'out the World their Words; In them a rich adorned Tent He for the Sun affords. 5. Which from his Chambers marcheth forth, Bright as a Bridgroom clad; And Champion like, proud of his Strength, To run his Race is glad. 6. Lo, how he swiftly from the East, Pursues his Western Course! And all Things in his Circle feels His Heat's reviving Force. Second Part 7. God's perfect Law converts the Soul, And daily Strength supplies; His Testimonies faithful are, And make the Simple wise. 8. The Statutes of the Lord are right, With Joy they fill the Heart; The Lord's Commands are perfect pure. Light to the Eyes impart. 9. The Fear of God, from Mixtures free, Forever do's abide; His Judgments are establish'd Truth, And wholly justify'd. 10. More to be priz'd than Stores of Gold, Refin'd with utmost Skill; Than Virgin Honey sweeter far, That from the Combs distill. 11. Thy Servant, where his Danger lies, They friendly warning give; And they who strictly keep thy Word, Thence great Rewards receive. 12. But who can fully know, how oft He errs from Paths Divine; From all my secret Faults, O cleanse This guilty Soul of mine. 13. With-hold me from presumptuous Sins, Ne'er let them rule o'er me; Then upright, and from grosser Crimes, I purify'd shall be. 14. O let the Off 'rings of my Mouth, And Musings of my Heart, Delight thine Eyes: thou, Lord, my Strength, And my Redeemer art.
