Author: Washington Gladden, 1836-1918 Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 571 hymnals Scripture: Galatians 6:1-2 Lyrics: 1 O Master, let me walk with thee in lowly paths of service free; thy secret tell; help me to bear the strain of toil, the fret of care. 2 Help me the slow of heart to move by some clear winning word of love; teach me the wayward feet to stay and guide them in the homeward way. 3 Teach me thy patience; still with thee in closer, dearer company, in work that keeps faith sweet and strong, in trust that triumphs over wrong, 4 in hope that sends a shining ray far down the future's broadening way, in peace that only thou canst give, with thee, O Master, let me live. We Sing the Praise of Him Who Died

Author: Thomas Kelly (1769-1855) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 192 hymnals Scripture: Galatians 6:1-16 Lyrics: 1 We sing the praise of him who died, of him who died upon the cross; the sinner's hope let sin deride; for this we count the world but loss. 2 Inscribed upon the cross we see in shining letters, "God is love." He bears our sins upon the tree; he brings us mercy from above. 3 The cross -- it takes our guilt away; it holds the fainting spirit up; it cheers with hope the gloomy day, and sweetens every bitter cup; 4 it makes the coward spirit brave, and nerves the feeble arm for fight; it takes its terror from the grave, and gilds the bed of death with light. 5 The balm of life, the cure of woe, the measure and the pledge of love, the sinner's refuge here below, the angels' theme in heaven above. Topics: Holy Week (Good Friday) Used With Tune: BOW BRICKHILL

O Brother Man, Fold to Your Heart

Author: John Greenleaf Whittier Meter: 11.10.11.10 Appears in 149 hymnals Scripture: Galatians 6:2 First Line: O brother man, fold to thy heart your brother Lyrics: 1 O brother man, fold to your heart your brother; Where pity dwells, the peace of God is there; To worship rightly is to love each other, Each smile a hymn, each kindly deed a prayer. 2 For he whom Jesus loved has truly spoken: The holier worship which he deigns to bless Restores the lost, and binds the spirit broken, And feeds the widow and the fatherless. 3 Follow with reverent steps the great example Of him whose holy work was doing good; So shall the wide earth seem our Father's temple, Each loving life a psalm of gratitude. 4 Then shall all shackles fall; the stormy clangor Of wild war music o'er the earth shall cease; Love shall tread out the baleful fire of anger, And in its ashes plant the tree of peace. Amen. Topics: Service for the Lord's Day Conclusion of Worship; Other Observances Ecumenism; Other Observances Mission; Other Observances Stewardship; Other Observances World Peace Used With Tune: WELWYN
