Hail to the Lord's Anointed

Author: James Montgomery (1771-1854) Hymnal: Hymns of Glory, Songs of Praise #474 (2008) Meter: 7.6.7.6.7.6.7.6 Topics: Christ Risen Coming Again Lyrics: 1 Hail to the Lord's Anointed, great David's greater Son! Hail, in the time appointed, his reign on earth begun! He comes to break oppression, to set the captive free; to take away transgression, and rule in equity. 2 He comes with succour speedy to those who suffer wrong, to help the poor and needy, and bid the weak be strong, to give them songs for sighing, their darkness turn to light, whose souls, condemned and dying, are precious in his sight. 3 He shall come down like showers upon the fruitful earth, and love, joy, hope, like flowers, spring in his path to birth. Before him, on the mountains, shall peace, the herald, go; and righteousness in fountains from hill to valley flow. 4 For him shall prayer unceasing and daily vows ascend, his kingdom still increasing, a kingdom without end. The mountain dew shall nourish a seed, in weakness sown, whose fruit shall spread and flourish and shake like Lebanon. 5 O'er every foe victorious, he on his throne shall rest, from age to age more glorious, all blessing and all-blest. The tide of time shall never his covenant remove; his name shall stand for ever, the name to us is Love. Scripture: Psalm 72 Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST EIN ROS' ENTSPRUNGEN

Behold the amazing gift of love

Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #478 (2005) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Christ Risen Coming Again Lyrics: 1 Behold the amazing gift of love the Father hath bestowed on us, in calling us his own, the children of our God! 2 Concealed as yet this honour lies, by this dark world unknown, a world that knew not when he came, even God's eternal Son. 3 High is the rank we now possess; but higher we shall rise, though what we shall hereafter be is hid from mortal eyes. 4 Our souls, we know, when he appears, shall bear his image bright; for all his glory, full disclosed, shall open to our sight. 5 A hope so great and so divine may trials well endure; and purge the soul from sense and sin, as Christ himself is pure. Scripture: 1 John 3:1-3 Languages: English Tune Title: ST. STEPHEN (NEWINGTON)

Most glorious Lord of Life, that on this day

Author: Edmund Spenser (c. 1552-1599) Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #215 (2005) Meter: 10.10.10.10 Topics: Christ Risen Resurrection and Exaltation Lyrics: 1 Most glorious Lord of life, that on this day didst make thy triumph over death and sin, and having harrowed hell, didst bring away captivity thence captive, us to win: 2 This joyous day, dear Lord, with joy begin, and grant that we, for whom thou diddest die, being with thy dear blood clean washed from sin, may live for ever in felicity: 3 And that thy love we, weighing worthily, may likewise love thee for the same again; and for thy sake, that all like dear didst buy, with love may one another entertain. 4 So let us love, dear Love, like as we ought, love is the lesson which the Lord us taught. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:53-57 Languages: English Tune Title: DUNOON
