Lord of the church, we humbly pray

Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 57 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Lord of the church, we humbly pray For those who guide us in Thy way, And speak Thy holy Word: With love divine their hearts inspire, And touch their lips with hallowed fire, And needful strength afford. 2 Help them to preach the truth of God, Redemption through the Saviour's blood; Nor let the Spirit cease On all the Church His gifts to shower: To them a messenger of power, To us, of life and peace. 3 So may they live to Thee alone; Then hear the welcome word,"Well done!" And take their crown above, Enter into their Master's joy, And all eternity employ In praise, and bliss, and love. Fröhlich Soll Mein Herze Springen

Author: Paul Gerhardt Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 86 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Fröhlich soll mein Herze springen Dieser Zeit, Da vor Freud’ Alle Engel singen. Sollt’ uns Gottes Sohn nicht lieben, Der jetzt kömmt, Von uns nimmt, Was uns will betrueben? Ich will dich ins Herze schliessen; O mein Ruhm, Edle Blum’, Lass dich recht geniessen! 15 Ich will dich mit Fleiss bewahren, Ich will dir Leben hier, Dir will ich abfahren; Mit dir will ich endlich schweben Voller Freud’ Ohne Zeit Dort im andern Leben. The Lord Into His Garden Came

Author: Anonymous Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 237 hymnals Lyrics: 1 The Lord into His garden came The spices yield a rich perfume, The lilies grow and thrive: Refreshing showers of grace divine, From Jesus flow to every vine, And make the dead revive. 2 O that this dry and barren ground In springs of water may abound, A fruitful soil become. The desert blossom as the rose, When Jesus conquers all His foes, And makes His people one. 3 The glorious time is rolling on, The gracious work is now begun; My soul a witness is, I taste and see the pardon free, For all mankind, as well as me, Who comes to Christ may live. 4 The worst of sinners here may find A Savior pitiful and kind: Who will them all receive. None are too late who will repent; Out of one sinner legions went, The Lord did him relieve. 5 Come brethren, you that love the Lord, And taste the sweetness of His word; In Jesu’s way go on, Our troubles and our trials here, Will only make us richer there, When we arrive at home. 6 I feel that Heaven is now begun, It issues from the sparkling throne; From Jesu’s throne on high It comes like floods, we can’t contain, We drink, and drink, and drink again; And yet we still are dry. 7 But when we come to reign above, And all surround a throne of love, We’ll drink a full supply. Jesus will lead His armies through, To living fountains where they flow, That never will run dry. 8 ’Tis there we’ll reign, and shout, and sing, And make the upper regions ring; When all the saints get home. Come on, come on! my brethren dear, Soon we shall meet together there: For Jesus bids us come. 9 Amen! amen! my soul replies, I’m bound to meet you in the skies, And claim my mansions sure. Now here’s my heart, and here’s my hand, To meet you in the heavenly land, Where we shall part no more. Lord, Thou Hast Won

Author: John Newton Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 89 hymnals First Line: Lord, Thou hast won, at length I yield Lyrics: 1 Lord, Thou hast won, at length I yield, My heart, by mighty grace compelled, Surrenders all to Thee; Against Thy terrors long I strove, But who can stand against Thy love? Love conquers even me. 2 All that a wretch could do, I tried, Thy patience scorned, Thy power defied, And trampled on Thy laws; Scarcely Thy martyrs at the stake, Could stand more steadfast for Thy sake, Than I in Satan’s cause. 3 But since Thou hast Thy love revealed, And shown my soul a pardon sealed, I can resist no more: Couldst Thou for such a sinner bleed? Canst Thou for such a rebel plead? I wonder and adore! 4 If Thou hadst bid Thy thunders roll, And lightnings flash to blast my soul, I still had stubborn been: But mercy has my heart subdued, A bleeding Savior I have viewed, And now, I hate my sin. 5 Now, Lord, I would be Thine alone, Come take possession of Thine own, For Thou hast set me free; Released from Satan’s hard command, See all my powers waiting stand, To be employed by Thee. 6 My will conformed to Thine would move, On Thee my hope, desire, and love, In fixed attention join; My hands, my eyes, my ears, my tongue, Have Satan’s servants been too long, But now they shall be Thine. 7 And can I be the very same, Who lately durst blaspheme Thy name, And on Thy Gospel tread? Surely each one, who hears my case, Will praise Thee, and confess Thy grace Invincible indeed! Used With Tune: MERIBAH Text Sources: Olney Hymns (London, W. Oliver, 1779), Book 1

O God, Regard My Humble Plea

Author: Anonymous Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 13 hymnals Lyrics: 1. O God, regard my humble plea; I cannot be so far from Thee But Thou wilt hear my cry; When I by trouble am distressed, Then lead me on the rock to rest That higher is than I. 2. In Thee my soul hath shelter found, And Thou hast been from foes around The tower to which I flee. Within Thy house will I abide; My refuge sure, whate’er betide, Thy sheltering wings shall be. 3. For Thou, my God, my vows hast heard, On me the heritage conferred Of those that fear Thy name; A blest anointing Thou dost give, And Thou wilt make me ever live Thy praises to proclaim. 4. Before Thy face shall I abide; O God, Thy truth and grace provide To guard me in the way; So I will make Thy praises known, And, humbly bending at Thy throne, My vows will daily pay.
