Like Thousand Mountains Brightly Crowned

Author: H. A. Brorson Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home (2nd ed.) #245 (1928) Hymnal Title: Hymnal for Church and Home (2nd ed.) Lyrics: 1 Like thousand mountains brightly crowned, With groves of swaying pans around, We see a throng of ev'ry tongue In snow-white mantles gowned. These are the heroes who did go Through prawns and trials here below, The Lamb of God has with His blood Their robes made white as snow. In heaven now His face they see In never-ending jubilee Where angels sing Before the King The sweetest symphony. 2 Their earthly lot was shame and scorn, But now behold them bright as morn, In priestly gowns, with golden crowns, And glory heaven-born. The world did often them dismay And tears would flow by night and day, But God by grace in His embrace Has wiped all tears away. And now they find where life is best Eternal joy with hearts at rest; The Lamb so dear At fountains clear In Host as well as Guest. 3 Now, hail to you, bright heroes bold, The saints just gone, the saints of old, That unto death ye kept the faith And passed away consoled! Ye counted earthly pleasures cheap, With tears ye sowed and now ye reap The golden grain and see your gain. With gladness strong and deep. Lift up your voice and wave "All honor be Eternally To God and to the Lamb!" Topics: Comfort and Hope Languages: English Tune Title: [Like thousand mountains brightly crowned]

Behold a Host, Arrayed in White

Author: Hans Adolf Brorson, 1694-1764 Hymnal: Lutheran Service Book #676 (2006) Meter: 8.8.4.4.6.8.8.4.4.6.8.8.4.4.6 Hymnal Title: Lutheran Service Book Lyrics: 1 Behold a host, arrayed in white, Like thousand snow-clad mountains bright! With palms they stand; Who is this band Before the throne of light? These are the saints of glorious fame, Who from the great affliction came And in the flood Of Jesus' blood Are cleansed from guilt and shame. They now serve God both day and night; They sing their songs in endless light. Their anthems ring As they all sing With angels shining bright. 2 Despised and scorned, they sojourned here; But now, how glorious they appear! Those martyrs stand, A priestly band, God's throne forever near. On earth they wept through bitter years; Now God has wiped away their tears, Transformed their strife To heav'nly life, And freed them from their fears. They now enjoy the Sabbath rest, The heav'nly banquet of the blest; The Lamb, their Lord, At festal board Himself is host and guest. 3 O blessed saints in bright array Now safely home in endless day, Extol the Lord, Who with His Word Sustained you on the way. The steep and narrow path you trod; You toiled and sowed the Word abroad; Rejoice and bring Your fruits and sing Before the throne of God. The myriad angels raise their song; O saints, sing with that happy throng! Lift up one voice; Let heav'n rejoice In our Redeemer's song! Author: Hans Adolf Brorson, 1694 - 1764 Hymnal: Service Book and Hymnal of the Lutheran Church in America #599 (1958) Hymnal Title: Service Book and Hymnal of the Lutheran Church in America Lyrics: 1 Behold a host like mountains bright! Lo! who are these, arrayed in white, A glorious band, with palms in hand Around the throne of light? Lo, these are they who overcame Great tribulation in his Name, And with his Blood the Lamb of God Hath washed away their shame. Before God's face they sing and pray, Their voices blend with angels' lay, And all conspire, a joyous choir, To laud him night and day. 2 Then sing, ye conquering legions white, Let myriad voices hail his might, And praise the Lord, who by his word Hath stablished you in light. Ye, who all earthly lure did flee, Who sowed and toiled, but tears to see, With rapture bring your sheaves and sing A heavenly melody. Lift up your palms, your voices raise Through heaven's vault and endless days. To God and to the Lamb is due Eternity of praise.
