David Duffield Wood was born near Pittsburgh, PA in 1838. He became totally blind in childhood, and was sent to the School for the Blind in Philadelphia. Wood was an organist, teacher, and composer. He was the organist at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia and co-founder of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He died in Philadelphia in 1910.
