Nicholas, Tressilian George, M.A., son of the Rev. George Nicholas, LL.D., was born in London, April 14, 1822, and educated at Wadham College, Oxford, (B.A. in honours, 1843, M.A. 1846.) On taking Holy Orders he became Curate of St. Lawrence, Reading, 1845; Incumbent of West Molesey, 1846; and Vicar of Lower Halstow, 1859. In 1863 he returned to West Molesey. He contributed several poetical pieces to the Church of England Magazine. These were collected and published as Poemsin 1851. From this work his well-known and extensively used hymn for Holy Communion, "Lord, when before Thy throne we meet," was taken. It is part of a poem which was printed in the Church of England Magazine for Jan. 6, 1838. It is usually given in 3 st. of 6 1., and often as anonymous.
