Marian Longfellow

Longfellow, Marian, born at Portland, Maine, April 1, 1849, and married to W. F. Morris, of Boston, May 9, 1876. Her hymn "He knows the bitter, weary way" (Times of Trial) was written Sep. 15, 1874.

Marian was the daughter of Stephen Longfellow (1805-1850), and niece of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and hymnist Samuel Longfellow. She spent her girlhood (and did her first writing) in Brookline, Massachusetts. In 1876, she married William Francis Morris of Boston. She is remembered as a poet, lecturer, and translator.
