Knollis, Francis Minden, D.D., son. of the Rev. James Knollis, Vicar of Penn, Bucks, was born Nov. 14, 1815, and died at Bournemouth, Aug. 25, 1863. He was educated at Magdalen, Oxford (B.A. 1837, D.D. 1851), and took Holy Orders in 1838. He was for sometime Fellow of his College, Chaplain to Lord Ribblesdale, and Incumbent of Fitzhead. His publications were somewhat numerous, including A Wreath for the Altar; A Garland for the School, or Sacred Verses for Sunday Scholars, 1854. His well-known hymn, “There is no night in heaven" (Heaven and its blessedness), appeared in Rutherford's Lays of the Sanctuary and Other Poems, 1859, p. 134, in 10 stanzas of 4 lines. It is headed "The One Family. Thoughts for the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels."
