Harrod, John Jolly. (1785--January 6, 1854). Printer and book seller in Baltimore, a layman of the Methodist Episcopal Church, he was a leader among the "Reformers" who were expelled from that church in 1827; he had been the editor of Mutual Rights, a magazine whose editorial policy had seriously offended the Bishops of the church. Assisting in the organization of the Methodist Protestant Church, 1828, he became the first Agent of its Book Concern. In 1829, he compiled and published for the Associate Methodist Churches The Associated Methodist Hymn-Book: A Compilation of Hymns adapted to Public and Social Worship. This was formally adopted by the Methodist Protestant Church at its Convention held at Baltimore in 1830.
