Daniel Belknap was born February 9, 1771 in Framingham, Mass. He was a farmer and a mechanic, but in his spare time he was a musician. He was a skilled singer and started teaching singing at the age of eighteen, mostly in Framingham and neighboring towns. He published The Harmonist's Companion in 1797, The Evangelical Harmony in 1800, The Middlesex Collection of Sacred Harmony in 1802, The Village Compilation of Sacred Music in 1806, and The Middlesex Sonster in 1809 (a collection of secular music) He moved to Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1812 and died there October 31, 1815.
