Today I was searching for instances of Stabat Mater as translated by Anthony Petti. I started by going to Petti's author page, clicked on the texts tab, where it shows "By the cross her station keeping" with 81 instances. So I clicked on the title, and it brought me to a conglomerate listing of every instance of Stabat Mater in English. I added the author column and saw that some were by Mant, several by Caswall, some listed as Jacapone da Todi (or Jacobus de Benedictis), none with Petti as author. I would imagine some of these listed under Jacopone might show Petti as translator, but there is no way to tell without looking at each instance.
The new beta search function is supposed to clarify this, right?
Also, it would seem that we should separate these instances, but this is complicated by the fact that the Mant and Caswall translations are often intertwined, even if one is listed as primary author. I am trying to learn more about Petti's version to see if it would be worthwhile to keep his separate. When I clicked on 'ABOUT' it had a five stanza version with no author specification and no explantation about the Mant/Caswall issue, even though I know there is a Stabat Mater authority page somewhere else. We need to clarify things here. Any ideas?

In general, different translations of a text should have different authorities. However, DNAH did not always index the texts this way. Also in some cases records have been mistakenly merged together. Until we can see what each hymnal instance actually says about the translator and the text it is difficult to separate out these translators. I was able, though to make a separate authority for the Petti translation which is found in the Gather Comprehensive hymnals.
Petti / Stabat Mater
According to the English Speaking Hymnal Guide, Petti's text was written for the New Catholic Hymnal (1971, British) and also appeared in Worship (3rd ed., 1986) and Together in Song (1999, Australian). I don't see any of those in the Hymnary, so I guess they need to go on our master list of hymnals to add.
