Looking for "Ave Maria" hymns and hymnals

You are here

Greetings,

I am looking for hymns, songs that have "Ave Maria" or their other-language equivalent in the title or text for my Ave Maria website (URL: www.avemariasongs.org )

I invite you to visit my website www.avemariasongs.org and to look around to see if there is anything that you might like for your church or choir or personal repertoire.
There are currently more than 4,200 different Ave Maria settings of over 3,500 composers listed. More than 1,100 Ave Marias are presented in MIDI format. More than 2,800 Ave Marias have been documented with a musical score, and/or audio/video recordings.
Submissions of Ave Maria settings that have not yet been documented are invited and would be greatly appreciated.

I was thrilled to have found this website, then it turned out to be an exercise in frustration. There are a number of hymns and hymnals listed, but with almost no supporting information, no texts or melodies, no information where to find these hymnals.

I suppose hymnal information is submitted by someone who has access to that hymnal. Is there any way to contact the person who submitted information about a specific hymnal?

Thank you for your time and consideration.
Peace and Blessings,

Most hymnals on this website that were published prior to 1979 were part of an older database that was assembled using very limited information. Yes, this is inadequate for many forms of research, and it will take a long time for our volunteers to correct these shortcomings. Some of the newer hymnals posted here have more detailed records with complete texts and tunes.

If you are wanting to find copies of certain hymnals, your best option would be WorldCat. Check with your local public/college/seminary library to see they offer InterLibrary Loan services.

If you are interested, we can set you up with an editorial account and you can help add information for the benefit of other researchers.
