So I'm looking for possible Fanny Crosby songs in the 1963 Sgaw Karen Hymn and Tune Book... Why is it that when I use the Hymnary's own Text search tool to look for this one (which turns out to be, apparently, by James Montgomery) I get [No results found], but when I use Google I get this result?

Incidentally, so far I have identified 22 Crosby pieces (including two different translations of "To God be the glory") in the Sgaw Karen hymnal.

I've had trouble with some searches as well and have learned to try BOTH search boxes. In this case, the upper-right search box works.

I just tried the upper-left search box with the first line including the comma, and it worked. I surely don't understand, because that box strips the comma out. Go figure.

If you look closely at your search, you will see that you are searching for texts containing "When like a stranger on this sphere" that start with "I". Click the "All" keyword, or try the search again, and you should get the expected result.

I've asked a programmer to clarify the "your search is contrained by..." statement at the bottom of the page.
