hymn formatting

Please answer, or direct me to the answer, for what to do with the following:

Hymn Titles that end with a period.

Hymn Titles in double-quotes.

"Words by" in front of author's name.

"Music by" in front of composer's name.

Person Names preceded by Rev., Mrs., etc.

The "Amen" at the end of a hymn, sometimes followed by a period.

Tonight I had one occasion where the drop-down list of Name Authorities wasn't wide enough to distinguish which one to choose. I simply left it as the default "LastName_Initials". Is there any way to widen it or see beyond the borders?

How to find the filename of the image of the cover of the hymnal.

Do we standardize by always using "Refrain"?

Change "Refrain" to "Chorus" when "Chorus" appears in page image?

Are we to label a repeated part of a hymn as a "Refrain" even though it is not specifically identified as a "Refrain" or "Chorus"?

How about the partial or whole refrains at the end of the verses below the music?

What should be done with the college degrees after the name?

Not formatting, but thought it would be easier to add to the already long list of questions.

What should be done with page images of advertisements? even if for other hymnals? related subject(s)? done by the same author?

PS. Perhaps some answers are on the wiki but I went through things there too quickly. KJ

Comments

1. Hymn titles that end in a period and hymn titles in double quotes - do not include the period at the end, do include question marks and exclamation marks and double quotes.

2. "Words by" or "Music by" - assume these people are authors or composers, leave out the "words by" part and put in the name as it appears and their role as author or composer.

3. Names preceded by Rev., Mrs., etc. - include Rev. and Mrs., etc and also anything after the name such as Jr., OSB, Mus. Doc. or college degrees.

4. Amen - include the Amen with its period at the end of the text with a space after the last stanza if it is included in the hymnal.

5. Name authorities drop down box - I don't know of a way to widen the drop down box. In these cases I browse the People list, if I click on "Edit this person" I can see the authority, then I copy it into the authority box.

6 Hymnal cover images - I'm pretty sure the way to add these is to find the image on the Internet, save the file, then upload the file through Adding a Media File. This will give you the url to copy into the hymnal

7 Refrains - Use whatever word for this the hymnal uses. Add the refrain before or after the first stanza, identify it as "Refrain:" (or "Chorus:") leave a space, then add the text. After the succeeding stanzas add "[Refrain]" after the last line, no need to reenter the text. If there is a partial or whole refrain after the stanza and the hymnal doesn't identify if as a refrain then I do not separate it out as a refrain but copy it in its entirety at the end of each stanza.

8 Page images of advertisements, etc. - I'm guessing page scans would include every page in the book, including advertisements, so these would be included with the page scan files along with prefaces, indexes, and other front and back matter but these pages wouldn't be attached to the hymns. Some people could see them if they looked through the PDF file but most people probably won't be doing this.

Thank you so very much for all your time and effort you've taken to answer so many questions. I'm sure there will be some more (hopefully fewer) before I complete my first upload of hymnal page images and related tasks.
