Duplicate text authorities, due to DNAH hymns I guess

You are here

I'm noticing duplicate text authorities for the hymns I'm entering, one with a small number of instances and another with a large number. An example is america_the_beautiful-3 (12 instances) and o_beautiful_for_spacious_skies (381 entries). Do we have a standard practice for which authority should be used? Will these be merged eventually? The text authority with fewer instances usually has fulltext and includes instances I tend to trust such as The Baptist Hymnal 1991, so up till now I'm using this instead of the text authority with the larger number of instances. -Eric

Yes, many duplicate text authorities appeared with the addition of the DNAH data. There are also duplicate persons. These all need to be merged, and it will be a big job -- but a necessary one to make the data reliable.

Volunteers are welcome to help with the merging process -- we only ask that you do the training quiz and hymnal first.

I think I did some merging last(?) week and just now saw that you prefer us doing the 22-question quiz and training hymnal. Therefore, please create a training hymnal for me and direct me to the quiz, if you would be so kind. Thanks in advance.

I had passed the quiz and just now completed the training hymnal. Now what? I saved it on my computer in CSV format.

Ken,

I guess we were thinking you'd do the training hymnal online. Tina Schneider will check it. However, if you prefer to do it in excel I don't see why you couldn't mail her the resulting spreadsheet.

Thanks!

I'm sorry that these training requirements are slightly onerous, but the people behind the Dictionary of North American Hymnology had some problems with volunteers who weren't following the guidelines, and it caused lots of trouble.

Thanks again for your willingness to help.

Mail Tina Schneider the resulting spreadsheet at what address?

KenJ

Ken,

I don't want to post her email address here because the spam crawlers will find it. You can send her an email (without attachment) from a link here: http://www.hymnary.org/dnah

Are you on the hymnary-editor mailing list? If not, you should be. Let me know if you would like me to add you. Tina has posted a number of emails there.

Anyone else interested in being added to the hymnary-editor mailing list can also send me email.

Apparently I'm not on the list, so, yes, please do add me to the hymnary-editor mailing list. I understand about posting email addresses. All I needed was to be pointed in a direction where I might find it, and you just did that. Thank you. :)
