Stamps-Baxter style Gospel Hymns

You are here

Hi all,

I'm trying to track down some fairly obscure 7 note (shapenote) gospel songs in the style of Stamps-Baxter and A. J. Showalter 'new book' convention songs.

The songs I'm currently looking for would have been written no later than 1937 as the recordings I'm getting these from date from 1935 to 1937.

One has the chorus: "Keep a-marching on till the end of the night, the land of rest beyond the sky ----(unintelligible)----- on wings of gold, forever more keep a-marching on."

Does anyone know of a database of the 'new book' repertoire? Ruebush/Kieffer, Showalter, Stamps-Baxter, et al?

Any leads would be helpful.

Thanks!
