[Scripture Song Database First Line format query]

I was just looking at Herbert Stuempfle's texts list, and noticed that a large percentage of the putative first lines appeared to be in a format, i.e. between [square brackets], that I associate with first lines used as tune identifiers where a tune name per se has not been assigned. These all appear to be songs whose sole instance is in the Scripture Song Database, and it looks as if all the thousands of texts listed in that database are in that format. What is the reason for this? Are there cases where I should be putting square brackets around first lines I am entering? (Not that I have any intention of messing around with that database, but I mean elsewhere?)

The Scripture Song Database is a special case. It is not really a hymnal but a list of hymns based on scripture. We're holding on to it because of the scripture references. Ordinarily brackets should not be around first lines.
