The Cyber Hymnal's picture

Just discovered that you can't log in, register, or change your password unless your browser accepts cookies from hymnary.org. Unfortunately, the Web site doesn't tell you that. If I hadn't guessed that was the problem, I would have been totally locked out.

At a minimum, hymnary.org should tell the user that cookies must be enabled.

Comments

In general, sites that accept a login also require cookies for this to work. Since most browsers accept cookies anyway, we don't feel it is necessary to explicitly state that they are required.

Some visitors may choose to block cookies due to privacy concerns, which is completely valid. However, most sites that require cookies to work only require first-party cookies - that is, cookies from the site itself. Third-party cookies from advertising and tracking servers can be blocked without harm.
