defective pdf scores

In trying to look at the existing repertoire of tunes by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy to see whether EVANGELIST is just another name for an already present tune, I find that some of the PDFs are defective, with no noteheads, no clefs or time signatures, etc... Example: WILSON. I don't think the problem is with my Adobe software, because some PDF scores (e.g. STUKELY) look just fine. What is causing this? How can it be corrected?

My suspicion is that the PDF does not contain the fonts needed to render the note heads. I see in your screenshot there is a warning that "This PDF document might not be displayed correctly". Can you get any more details by clicking on that?

If the PDF does not have the embedded font needed for the notes, then the only work-around is to find out what font that is and install it. But there's no way to fix the document now.

Try downloading the file and viewing it as a file from your computer (Either click on the download button, or change the setting of your browser to always save PDF files). The second option is to try another browser. I tried both ways and the file previewed just fine.

Odd, this file was imported from the CCEH, see http://www.ccel.org/cceh/0007/x000743.htm
(which has a link to a PDF file that reviews just fine.)
