Need to find a Hymn written 1899

You are here

My Grandmother and Grandfather sang together with a mixed stamps quartet in Texas 1890's to about 1910. They got married and raised 11 children on a farm in West Texas they had a family song that all sang and the words have been passed down to my genreation--but I cannot find any music for it. The song is "While Years Roll On" by J.S Newman my guess it was published in the late 1890's and was probably a popular quartet song at that time. Can anyone help in finding this song ? I have extensivly searched the internet and have not found any mention of the son. The words that I know are " We are traveling to our homein that bright celestial dome, Where the prophets and the patriarchs have gone, and we hope to reach that gate ERE the aweful words too late shall be sounded in the coming judgement day. There we'll see our blessed saviou and the loving ones who've gone there to rest among the blessed while the years roll on and on". Thank you very much and may the Lord Bless.

Sorry everyone I did not prof the letter before I posted it and I cannot edit it now but I had several typos. Next time I will pay more attention.

While the years roll on, although a different author is listed (T. D. Nettles). Unfortunately this hymnal has not yet been fully entered in the database, so all we have to go on is the beginning of the first line ("We are traveling to our home, in that bright") and the title ("While the years roll on"). It is in a hymnal called The song feast, no. 1 : a book of sacred songs, which was published in Waco in 1899. WorldCat lists five libraries that have this in their collections, here, and my guess is that your local public library can probably either get you one through Inter-Library Loan, or get one of them to fax a page scan to you. Here's hopin'! If you succeed, please post the full text here so it can be copied into the database. If you can send a page scan to me at rosharuo@gmail.com, I'll be thrilled and will gladly enter the data here.

I will do as you suggest and hopefully I can find the song. Like I said I know the words to 2 verses and the melody but I would love to have the music to pass along to my cousins and my kids. I will write back to let you know if I am sucessful or not. Once again thank you.

I just wish we had that hymnal here fully indexed and with full texts and page scans already.
