Not Authorized to see Trinity Hymnal 1961?

You are here

I'm confused. I added the 1961 ("Original Recipe") Trinity Hymnal to my "My Hymnals" list. When I attempt to link to it, I get a page that tell that I am "not authorized to see this page."

I realize that there have been times when English royalty have viewed Presbyterians as dangerous--but banning the pages of our hymnal from Hymnary.org seems a bit extreme.... Might this be a bug that needs to be fixed?

We have the 1961 Trinity Hymnal on our site. However, it is currently "unpublished," meaning unavailable for searching. This is because there was a problem with the tunes not being connected into the database and minimal information about the composer or source to connect them correctly, also it seemed that some tunes were paired up with the wrong texts. In short, there is significant editing that needs to be done. I will try to get to this task soon.

Would you like some help?

I have the hymnal, and have accurate information about composers, tune names, and lyricists.

I have just over 300 of the hymns in the 1961 Trinity Hymnal scored (for organ) in Sibelius, and almost 300 of those hymns recorded as MP3s. I have just over 200 scored (with lyrics) for the grand staff, again using Sibelius. I could provide them as PDFs as well as MusicXML files, too. (Very few of the hymns in the 1961 TH present copyright problems.)

John,

We'd be very interested in your help improving the Trinity Hymnal as well as adding the other files.

Getting authorized as an editor requires going through a training process -- see http://www.hymnary.org/wiki/Training_Material_for_Editors . Then you can make corrections online. This is easiest for us.

Another option would be to get an Excel file of the hymnal and correct/proof the data in Excel. Since the hymnal is unpublished, Dianne would have to export it as an Excel spreadsheet and send it to you. Perhaps you can send a message to Dianne for more the spreadsheets if that's the route you want to go.

However, Dianne probably has to be involved in some of the work, especially the authority resolution (connection texts and tunes properly to authority records).
