Link to Forum?

You are here

The new homepage appears to have no forum link. Is Google Search the only way to get here now?

My initial reaction is, what disrespect to your loyal participants. I now have to memorize the drupal or whatever node number of each forum in order to find it again? I know the user room is 55; what is the editors' room? The hymnal exchange? The developers' nook?

There is such a thing as oversimplification.

Actually I see that if I simply go to http://www.hymnary.org/forum in the first place, it's as if I'd never left. It'll probably work for you, too. Though how any newbies are to find us I have no clue.

Before I figured out how to get back here to the Forums, I tried putting "editors'" in the Giant Central Search Box, and rather oddly got sent to a particular hymnal, this one. I guess because the publisher's name is "The Editor"? I was actually trying to find forum node 57, here. Smart machines may be pretty smart, but they don't have a lot of common sense.

There is a small link at the bottom of the CONNECT (volunteer) page. I hereby humbly request that perhaps the forum could have its own subheading and maybe a few words about how this might be helpful to visitors.

Sevenfold Amen.

I know the human habit is usually to complain about trivial matters while ignoring the greater good, and I am no stranger to that approach. I should express how I think the front page has a cleaner look, which is consistent with the approach of other major search interfaces (Google, Bing), and is a wise decision. Bravo to whomever made that call.

Less cluttered is good, but still when it interferes with those already using it in their normal use of it, it's too good for the common good. I'm dealing with multiple deaths in the family, unemployment verging on the chronic, and a serious injury to my body, which may have shortened my fuse and thinned my skin, and has certainly limited my time and energy for hymnology, but the complete disappearance of the Forums here felt on first meeting like a slap in the face. Now that I've found them it's "all okay", but in future makeovers a bit more heads-up please?

There is now a link to the Forums at the top of the Connect page.

Thanks for the solution Dianne or whoever did it.

>Less cluttered is good

Yes! The home page will now work MUCH MUCH better on mobile devices with small screens...so thanks, whoever has been thinking about this.
