Geibel/Gordon "Called to serve"

You are here

I see here that the song "Called to serve him, heavenly King of glory" was published in Adam Geibel Music Co.'s 1914 collection "The Song of Praise." I've been looking for the first publication of this song for years, and was delighted to see it listed here. (Don't know that it's actually the first publication, but it's certainly the earliest I've come across so far.) I tried to find "The Song of Praise" on Worldcat but it's not showing, nor is that publication listed anywhere else I can find. May I ask where hymnary.org found their copy of that volume?

Hymnary.com's information appears to have come from the Dictionary of North American Hymnology database (that's generally what's meant when hymns are numbered d1, d2 etc. here). That said, I have no idea where the DNAH found its information, but if as indicated it only has ten songs in it, it may be more of a pamphlet, one of the ephemera, than a "volume". If the ten songs listed comprise the entire contents of the publication, then it appears to be some sort of "Children's Day" song booklet.

What is this "Children's Day", anyway? Is it the Sunday when the regular choir is replaced by a children's choir, or was it a uniform nationwide or denominationwide observance of some sort?
