Looking for a tune

You are here

Hi all,
Am new here. Just discovered this site, and I am hoping that someone might be able to help me find the name of a tune, or even better still the music or a recording of a certain hymn for which I have been searching for over 40 years. Apparently everyone today sings the hymn "I feel the winds of God today" to that excellent Ralph Vaughan Williams tune, "Kingsfold", but as a lad, I remember singing it in my old Presbyterian Church to what I believe was a Scottish tune whose name I do not know. I am not a musician, but the following crude method might suffice to convey what the tune sounds like:

f a c f(higher) d c b(flat) a .......(I feel the winds of God today)

Thanks for any help.
Cheers,
Charles

Hi Charles,

I searched the melody search tool, but didn't find the incipit you mentioned. However, I'm wondering if you transcribed it incorrectly in your message and you're actually looking for Brother James' Air (http://www.hymnary.org/tune/brother_james_air?tab=about) which goes: f a c f c d f c Bb a f f e f. It's Scottish. Wait a minute, I don't know if the meter fits at the end...

I just looked in all my old Presbyterian hymnals and didn't find the text, so this is the best I can do. Hope it helps!

Peace,

Greg
