77. The Beacon Light

1 Where art thou steering, brother,
While sailing o’er life’s sea?
Before thee are the breakers,
And danger there may be.

Refrain:
The Light, The Light, my brother!
It stands on yonder height,
Christ marks the path of danger,
His word the Beacon Light.

2 Oh, many barks have stranded,
Where quick-sands hidden lie!
Then keep within the channel,
The Light before thine eye. [Refrain]

3 For vessels large and noble,
Upon the rocks will break!
And oft the strongest natures,
Before temptations shake. [Refrain]
