23. A Light at the River

1 There’s a deep, silent river flowing just before,
And it’s waters are dark and wide;
But faith sees a light, yes, a beacon light,
Just down the river side.

Refrain:
There’s a light at the river, a light at the river,
A light at the river I can see;
My Lord will stand and hold in his hand
A light at the river for me.

2 O’er its dark, foaming waters from the unseen shore,
Angel bands in their beauty glide;
And they bear us away to the realms of day,
To the light on the other side. [Refrain]

3 Many dear ones now gathered safe before the throne,
Dipp’d their wings in the mystic tide,
Passed over the deep, where they do not weep,
Into life on the other side. [Refrain]

4 To the deep, silent river we must one day come,
And pass o’er its waters wide;
But happy we’ll be if by faith we see
A light at the river side. [Refrain]
