44. A Few Little Seeds

1 A few little seeds by the wayside,
If scatter’d with loving hand,
May grow to a bountiful harvest,
To comfort and bless the land.
Tho’ sown in the light or the shadow,
With smiles or with bitter tears,
The harvest will surely be garner’d
With joy in the coming years.

Refrain:
Scatter the seed over mountain and plain,
Scatter the seed, scatter the seed,
Scatter the seed over mountain and plain,
Water with tears . . . flowing down . . . like the rain
Water with tears, water with tears,
Water with tears, flowing down like the rain;
Then, when the reaping of plenty shall come,
Then, when the reaping of plenty shall come,
Then, when the reaping of plenty shall come,
Heavy laden with precious sheaves,
We’ll shout the Harvest Home.

2 A few little seeds by the wayside,
May fall into richest soil,
And many bright sheaves for the Master
Will fully repay you toil:
Then scatter the seed by the wayside,
with patient and faithful care,
And plead for the “showers of blessing”
With many an earnest pray’r. [Refrain]

3 The Master is watching above them,
And will the record keep;
Tho’ long be the season of waiting,
The harvest you’ll surely reap.
O’er mountain, o’er hillside and valley,
On highway and ocean strand,
Then scatter the seeds for the reaping,
With patient and loving hand. [Refrain]
