Author (Chorus): | W. T. Giffe |
Author (verse 3): | William Walter Shirley (1725-86) |
Author (verses 1 and 2): | Isaac Watts (1674-1748) |
1 Salvation! O the joyful sound!
What pleasure to our ears!
A sovereign balm for every wound,
A cordial for our fears.
Refrain:
So we’ll lift up the banner on high,
The salvation banner of love;
We’ll fight beneath its colours till we die,
Then go to our home above.
2 Salvation! let the echo fly
The spacious earth around;
While all the armies of the sky
Conspire to raise the sound.
3 Salvation! O thou bleeding Lamb,
To thee the praise belongs;
Salvation shall inspire our hearts,
And dwell upon our tongues.
