Notes: Prepare for the singing of this song by having music leaders go through each voice part of the refrain in turn, with the congregation echoing back these parts. This will not only serve to create confident harmonic singing but will also indicate which version of text will be used at the refrain. Then establish the “Ahoms” part by part, with strong attacks on each one. Make sure these are solid before beginning with the solo voice parts. Don’t think of the “Ahom” as two syllables, but rather a guttural “ah” on the grace note, with a little slide up to the hum on the downbeat. Accompany with djembe and shakers.
