Additional Prayers

A Prayer of Acclamation
Great God, your people come from East and West, North and South.
Yet we have one bread, one body, one Lord of all.
We belong to every tribe, tongue, and nation.
Yet we have one cup of blessing which we bless.
Our histories with each other have too often been shameful.
Yet we have one bread, one body, one Lord of all.
Bind your wonderfully varied people together, O Lord,
just because we have one body, one cup, one Lord of all, in whom we pray. Amen.
— Cornelius Plantinga, Jr.

We, your people, Lord,
are scattered around the world today.
Yet when we gather at your table, we become one.
Like grain from many fields becomes one loaf,
and grapes from many vines become one cup,
so we become one body here today.
and drink from one cup,
we are united together.
Remove the divisions that separate us,
heal the brokenness that too often marks us.
Make this time of sacrament
a celebration of our oneness with Christ
and with one another,
that the world may believe. Amen.
— Worship Sourcebook Edition Two

Almighty Lord of the church, we pray to you
from rural meeting houses and downtown cathedrals,
from ranch homes and thatched-roof huts,
from factories, hospitals, and classrooms:
Make your people one!
Almighty Lord of the church, we pray to you
with saints of old and newborn disciples,
with your church around the world,
with men, women, and children:
Make your people one!
Almighty Lord of the church, we pray to you:
Fulfill in us the prayer of Jesus to make your people one. Amen.
