1 Abraham's seed was circumcised,
When they wer but eight days old,
Ours they say may be baptised,
This they think will surely hold.
2 Is there any outward figure
Points to outward signs again?
This the sign of circumcision,
Points us to the inner man.
3 If our hearts are circumcised,
We may wear the outward sign,
Believing we may be baptised,
This I think to be the time.
4 I know the word is full of meaning,
Likely here is something shown,
Young children may receive the sealing,
Baptising then is straightway done.
5 Baptising those that's young believers,
Is a thing in scripture shown,
To the friends of old Cornelius,
Peter doth command it done.
6 As soon as we can find they're children,
Of the promise made to Christ,
We give them the outward sealing,
Without a dissenting voice.
7 But to make ourselves like Abra'm,
Makes us greater than we be,
Our nat'ral seed is more like Sodom,
Or like the wild Olive Tree.
8 Be believing we are grafted
Into the true Olive Tree,
Seal no blanks your wax is wasted,
Or at least it's so to me.
