74. Talking With Jesus

1 A little talk with Jesus,
How it smooths the rugged road;
How it seems to help me onward,
When I faint beneath my load.
When my heart is crushed with sorrow,
And my eyes with tears are dim,
There is naught can yield me comfort
Like a little talk with Him.

Chorus:
O I love to talk with Jesus,
For earthly joys grow dim;
And there’s naught can yield me comfort,
Like a little talk with Him.

2 I know the way is dreary
To that bright and happy clime;
But a little talk with Jesus
Will refresh me any time.
And as yet the more I know Him,
And His mercy I explore,
Only prompts my heart to longing
For a little talk the more. [Chorus]

3 I’ll tell Him I am weary,
And I fain would be at rest;
That I’m daily, hourly longing
For a home upon His breast.
Once He gave His life a ransom,
And would have me all His own,
Can He now forget His promise,
And reject His purchased one? [Chorus]

4 I’ll wait a little longer,—
Till His own appointed time;
And will glory in the knowledge
Of a prospect so sublime.
Then, when in my Father’s dwelling,
Where the many “mansions” are,
I will sweetly talk with Jesus,
And forever dwell up there. [Chorus]
