Text Information:

This text is a 20th-century metrical paraphrase of one of the oldest Christian hymns, Phos hilaron (gladdening light), dating from at least the 3rd century (see also nos. 672 and 673). It is associated with an evening service, held both in churches and in homes, when lamps or candles are lighted.
