480. Behold, a Stone in Zion Laid

1. Behold, a stone in Zion laid,
A tried, a sure foundation stone;
Thrice blest are they whose hopes are staid
Upon this base, and this alone.

Refrain
Some build their hopes on the ever drifting sand,
Some on their fame, or their treasure, or their land;
Mine’s on a Rock that forever will stand,
Jesus, the Rock of Ages.

2. Storms may arise, and tempests blow,
And beat with fury on this Rock,
Still it remains, though wave o’erflow,
Unmoved amid the fiercest shock. [Refrain]

3. Ne’er shall the gates of hell prevail,
O’er those who in the Lord abide,
Safely they dwell, though foes assail,
Forever near the Savior’s side. [Refrain]
