4196. Memories of Earth

1. When we reach our Father’s dwelling,
On the strong eternal hills,
And our praise to Him is swelling
Who the vast creation fills,
Shall we then recall the sadness,
And the clouds that hung so dim,
When our hearts were turned from hardness,
And our feet from paths of sin?

Refrain
Yes, we surely shall remember,
And His grace we’ll freely own,
For the love so strong and tender,
That redeemed and brought us home.

2. When the paths of prayer and duty,
And affliction all are trod,
And we wake and see the beauty
Of our Savior and our God,
Shall we then recall the story
Of our mortal griefs and tears,
When on earth we sought the glory
Wrestling oft with doubts and fears? [Refrain]

3. And the way by which He brought us,
All the grievings that He bore,
All the patient love that taught us,
We’ll remember evermore,
And His rest will be the dearer,
As we think of weary ways,
And His light will be the clearer
As we muse on cloudy days. [Refrain]
