14005. Through The Shadows

1 To each pilgrim here benighted,
Jesus has His mercy plighted;
He hath graciously invited
Every trembling soul to Him;
If He only walk beside us,
Then no evil can betide us;
He will comfort, He will guide us,
Thro’ the shadows dark and grim.

2 Tho’ the raging storms assail us,
Tho’ our strength and courage fail us,
Tho’ the gloomy shadows veil us
From His face along the way;
If we trust Him and revere Him,
If we truly love and fear Him,
If in trial we are near Him,
He will turn our night to day.

3 Brightest skies sometimes are clouded,
Brightest hopes are oft enshrouded,
Life with doubts and fears is crowded,
Bravest hearts are made to ache;
But for us ’twere worse than madness
To give way to doubts and sadness;
Visions of eternal gladness
Thro’ the shadows soon shall break.
