209. I now have found the ground that ever

1 I now have found the ground that ever
Shall hold my anchor firm and fast;
I can not be deceived, no never,
For on my Saviour it is cast;
This ground unmoved and firm shall stay
When heaven and earth have passed away.

2 It is that mercy, free and precious,
Surpassing all that we can know,
It is the hand of love to bless us
Who grieve and sorrow here below,
A love to help and save us all,
If only we would heed the call.

3 O deep abyss of love unbounded,
Which all our sin hath swallowed up!
Our wounds were healed, our foe confounded,
When Jesus drank the bitter cup
Of wrath, and shed His precious blood,
That mercy might be had from God.

4 This depth of love shall now receive me,
Embrace and keep me evermore;
And when my sins do pain and grieve me
And make my conscience sad and sore,
To Jesus I will look for aid,
Who for my sins so fully paid.

5 If friends and kindred should deceive me,
And all I prize on earth be lost,
I know that Jesus will receive me,
Who bought my soul at such great cost;
Whatever else from me be ta'en,
I know His mercy will remain.

6 Now this firm ground shall hold my anchor
Until my heart shall cease to beat,
And spite of Satan's wiles and rancor
I shall in bliss my Saviour meet,
And now my song shall ever be
Of that great love He bore to me.
