46. I Steal Away to Thee

1 There is a place of refuge,
More dear than all beside,
A vale of holy silence,
Where weary souls may hide;
And when the day is ended,
And I from toil am free,
O blessed, blessed Saviour,
I steal away to Thee.

2 Within that vale of silence,
Of calm and sweet repose,
Where peace dispels all sadness,
And like a river flows;
I hear a whispered message,
That tells Thy love to me;
And then, by faith directed,
I steal away to Thee.

3 No voice like Thine, so tender,
Can soothe my aching heart;
No words like Thine, so precious,
Can bid my fears depart;
And when fall evening shadows,
O welcome hour to me!
‘Tis then for sweet communion
I steal away to Thee.
