580. The Aged Sire Has Gone to Rest

1 The aged sire has gone to rest;
He left the world below,
To rest upon the Saviour's breast,
Escaping every foe.

2 Tho' kindred dear and friends might mourn,
He could no longer stay:
On angel's wings he swift was borne
To realms of endless day.

3 His silver locks no altars wreathe
Nor voice earth's temple fill:
But where enraptured spirits breathe
His voice the regions thrill.

4 Melodious strains his notes control,
Proclaiming love divine;
While him angelic throngs behold
'Midst cloudless glory shine.

AMEN.
