Additional verse for extant hymn

I am considering to write an additional verse to the hymn "May the God of peace go with us as we travel from this place" (Ian Jamieson). It would be for use by our little church "Community in Christ", Johannesburg (about 30 members). Of course others would be welcome to use my verse if they wish.

What is the correct protocol to do that? Should I contact the author, Ian Jamieson? If yes, how should I do so?

Yes, the text is copyrighted so you would need permission from Ian Jamieson (the copyright holder) to add a verse even if it is only used by your congregation. The Canterbury Press (Norwich, UK) should be able to give you his contact information
